North Yorkshire

I adore to travel the world and in my life so far I’ve been extremely lucky to see a lot of the world & get paid for it as a dancer on cruise ships and also afforded some stunning holidays with my family. However, although I adore visiting new lands and exciting exotic places, one place that always has my heart is North Yorkshire. I myself live in a beautiful part of West Yorkshire in the countryside with beautiful walks, countryside, stunning scenery, gorgeous restaurants & pubs and a beautiful village centre for all our needs so I know I’m very lucky. But North Yorkshire, regardless of what holidays abroad we go on, is somewhere we return to each year. The converted barn we stay in is in a perfect location for Whitby, Scarborough & Robin Hoods Bay so we return to the same place each year. It’s a stunning barn & an amazing kitchen with gorgeous gardens, a hot tub and it sleeps all 11 of us so we have a luxurious base to return to and we drive to a different place each day depending on whether we want to be at the beach or in the countryside. The drive to & from home is also stunning, making the entire trip enjoyable and relaxing from start to finish. We’re so lucky to have such stunning places on our doorstep, something I appreciate more & more as I get older.

Swim Wear in your 40’s

Yes it’s that time of year again (especially now we can travel properly again) where we start panicking about getting our ‘Bikini Body’ back in time for our summer holiday & wondering if we can still get away with a bikini this year or go with a one piece with tummy control!!!!

I’m a mum of two in my mid/late 40’s now and, although I do my best to stay in shape, it’s not quite as easy as it used to be. I’m on a big fitness kick at the moment ready for my August holiday to Tenerife as I have put on a few pounds recently! (I blame lockdown & a few too many G&T’s!!)

Having had a caesarean with my second child, my stomach, though not big, has a slight overhang where my scar is which in truth I absolutely love as that little scar saved my son’s life, but I do have to take care with the bikinis I choose.

I’m determined to still where a bikini this year, hell why not, but only when I’ve got my body back to where it was! I always find Next bikinis a good fit & quality. But it’s really not worth stressing over wearing a bikini if you don’t feel comfortable. There are some beautiful swim suits to be found & most brands do tummy control swim wear for that bit of extra confidence. A tankini is also a good idea if you want to tan your middle but then pull it down to swim & move around.

Even if you’re slim, we all have body confidence issues as we get older with cellulite, lumps & bumps here & there and the skin not being quite as taut as it was. I like to have a collection of cover ups & sarongs to slip on when you’re around the pool having a drink or walking to the beach etc. Matalan have a fantastic summer shop with great swim wear & cover ups along with some great matching sets if you love to coordinate like I do. Next, JD Williams, Seafolly, H&M and even Amazon all have great & affordable collections. M&S also have a good range if you want to go a little safer.

Kin, Barncliffe Mills, Shelley, Huddersfield

I had the pleasure of meeting my sister in law for brunch at Kin Restaurant in Shelley West Yorkshire last week. I live a mere 10 minute drive away but for some reason it’s the first time I’ve been but, it’s safe to say I’ll be going back very soon.

Situated in the beautiful Shelley countryside on the outskirts of Huddersfield, Kin is modern, light & airy with fabulous food using high quality & locally sourced ingredients along with an extremely efficient, friendly & welcoming staff. It has wonderful breakfast, brunch & lunch menus along with Sunday lunch also and I’m sure this lovely restaurant will go from strength to strength.

Pink gin spritz

Pair fruity pink gin with lychee liqueur to make this refreshing spritz cocktail. It’s beautifully delicate and floral – ideal for an al fresco gathering.

  • handful of ice
  • 50ml rose-flavoured gin
  • 35ml lychee liqueur
  • sparkling water, for topping up

  • STEP 1Fill a highball glass with ice.
  • STEP 2Pour over the gin and lychee liqueur, then top up with sparkling water

Gentleman Jack

It’s taken me a while to get into this series & I started watching it when Series 1 first aired but I didn’t really focus on it & gave up halfway through.

My business is in Halifax & so I know the town & surrounding areas well plus I love the cast individually so, as Series 2 came out I decided to start from the beginning of Series 1 again. This time I was in the right frame of mind & gave it my full attention & I thoroughly enjoyed it!!

Brilliantly acted from the main cast to smaller characters & the setting in the stunning Shibden Hall is wonderful to see on screen.

I love Suranne Jones & I think she really excels in the role of Anne Lister & the story of this forward thinking & extremely brave women is fascinating!! I’ve now finished Series 1 which I was gripped to and I’m about to start Series 2.

Queen Bee – Jane Fallon

One of my New Years resolutions this year was to read 2 books per month &, I’ve not just stuck to it, I’m absolutely loving reading properly again.

I’m mixing factual books with fiction, along with true life, lifestyle, self help & autobiography!

An author I’m particularly enjoying is Jane Fallon & I’ve recently read quite a few of her novels. Her books are fantastic for a light-hearted read in and amongst more serious topics and this was another I particularly enjoyed.

Her books are brilliant for piquing your interest from the minute you start and they certainly keep me gripped from start to finish. She’s witty and the words flow from page to page & I can’t wait to get started on her next novel.

My garden coming to life!!

I actually can’t think of anything this month!

1. Roses! Classic and simply stunning!

2. Al Fresco dining!

3. Audible

4. My Summer house for my writing. It’s my new creative space and I love it!  Dora loves sitting in it with me whilst I write too!

5. Our hot tub!! Although Max seems to take over the hot tub usually!! He just loves it!!
