LIFESTYLE, LEISURE, PLACES & HOME

Sorting out the garden for Autumn

I’m still very new to the gardening world but I’ve loved my garden over the summer, and I’ve got so much out of it & I need to ensure I’m doing all the right things over the Autumn & Winter so it all looks lovely again in Spring.

I’ve been watching many YouTube videos to make sure I’m pruning correctly, and I’ve enjoyed giving the garden a good tidy before the bad weather arrives. I’m also looking into what vegetables I can plant now ready for the Spring.

My next job is to get a proper gardening diary so I can learn what to plant & what to harvest at each time of the year. I’m still a novice but compared to this time last year I’ve learnt a lot & I love it!

BEAUTY, HEALTH & STYLE

Self Care after a busy work period

I’ve really learnt a lot & incorporated self care into my life over the past 18 months & I’ve loved the growth & knowledge it’s giving me and I’ve certainly got some wonderful tools to turn to when I’m feeling stressed & overwhelmed.

The last month however, has been a ridiculously busy time and self care has been put on the backburner somewhat. Luckily, although I’m always very busy at work it has calmed down slightly and before I do anything else, my day always starts with self care.

My morning routine is important which includes meditating, my gratitude journal, a dog walk and affirmations.

I also love to listen to podcasts or an audio book when I’m driving from which I’ve learnt so much about self care & self development. You really can’t pour from an empty cup so self care is a vital ingredient in every day life.

RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH

The Spencer’s Arms – Cawthorne

This lovely Pub/Restaurant is nestled in the gorgeous South Yorkshire village of Cawthorne. Newly refurbished before Covid, it has a wonderful ambience both day & night. The menu is varied and the food always excellent, (I can highly recommend the Fish & Chips). Lovely, efficient staff, a friendly atmosphere, excellent fayre, a cosy open fire, plenty of parking & lovely scenery in the surrounding areas if you are looking for a walk before or after your meal. The Spencer’s Arms is also dog friendly.

COCKTAIL OF THE MONTH

The Queen’s Dubonnet Cocktail

It is said that our late Queen’s favourite cocktail is a Dubonnet and Gin. With the upcoming season 5 of The Crown airing, this could make the perfect watch party drink recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Dubonnet
  • 1 ounce Gin
  • Lemon Wedge
  • 2 Large Cubes of Ice

Instructions

  1. Into a shaker add your Dubonnet and Gin. Stir with a bar spoon until fully chilled.
  2. In a rocks glass add two ice cubes and a lemon wedge. Strain cocktail into the rocks glass and over the ice and lemon. Serve.

FILM/TV SHOW OF THE MONTH

Emmerdale

I’ve watched Emmerdale & Corrie religiously for years so I don’t usually write about them as they just speak for themselves & carry on week by week. However, whilst Corrie has been a bit disappointing of late, I have to say Emmerdale has been excellent. Yes it’s a soap & people pick faults with it but some of the performances recently have been excellent, most notably Mark Charnock as Marlon & Sally Dexter as Faith. The story lines have kept me gripped & they deserve all the awards they’ve won recently.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The Queen – Andrew Morton

I’ve always been a Monarchist & loved our Queen, so I was of course upset when she passed away and wanted to absorb all things Royal with the many documentaries & programmes that were on. Audible is my new favourite thing to do whilst in the car and so I downloaded Andrew Morton’s book The Queen. It’s an epic read taking of 11 hours, but I found it highly interesting & couldn’t stop listening. I’m sure there are inaccuracies there too, but a lot of the facts are correct & I thoroughly enjoyed it.

THIS MONTH I’M LOVING

Half Term sunshine in Majorca

THIS MONTH I’M NOT LOVING

‘Blonde’ the Netflix film about Marilyn Monroe. As a huge Marilyn fan I was really looking forward to watching this and, like so many others, I was hugely disappointed!!

THIS MONTHS FAVOURITES

1. Strictly!!!!!

2. The Crown – watching it all again before season 5 comes out

3. Audible – I’m loving Audio books in the car

4. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

5. Lush Bath Bombs
