After another month of lockdown & having to go back to teaching on Zoom, I have never been as glad for a month to end in my life. I absolutely hate wishing time away, but November was a very testing month for small businesses.

I did   manage to squeeze a couple of lovely ‘socially distanced’ events in before lockdown began though.

1. Getting lots of big jobs done in the house getting it ready for Christmas

2. An amazing meal at Tattu restaurant in Leeds with Isabelle (see my Yorkshire restaurant of the month review)

3. Afternoon Tea at the beautiful 315 restaurant in Huddersfield with my mum. Her first trip out since her hip replacement operation

4. Getting lots of my Christmas shopping done, mainly online this year

5. My mum getting her hip replacement done after it was cancelled in April & she’s doing really well

The importance of family walks during lockdown

Sure, we all got sick to the back teeth of ‘yet another family walk’ during the first lockdown towards the end but, especially as a parent of teenagers, our walks were so important to get them outside and out of their bedrooms &, more importantly, off social media for a while.

We’re very lucky to live in a beautiful village surrounded by stunning Yorkshire countryside & we have some lovely walks around us. The weather hasn’t been great recently but as long as you’re wrapped up warmly the fresh air does you the world of good. One of the best things we ever did was get our beautiful Cavachon dog Dora 3 years ago who we all absolutely adore, and she makes walks all the more pleasurable. Apparently, the amount of dog owners in the UK has gone up hugely since lockdown which doesn’t surprise me, they really do make a family complete.

But the most important thing is getting out as a family, spending time together, laughing, talking, and making memories to last a lifetime.

Birchbox v Glossybox

I’ve subscribed to Birchbox for 6 months now and I look forward to my lovely little box dropping through the letter box every month. I share it with Isabelle and most months there are products that suit her and ones that suit me. I like the fact that I get to try out new products & new brands, many of which I’ve gone on to purchase and continue using.

The price is reasonable at £12.95 every month and I’d heard good things about Glossybox too so when I received an email with a monthly deal of £11.75 I decided to subscribe to it too so Isabelle and I can share this one also.

I can’t compare too much yet as I’ve only had one Glossybox so I’ll do another full review at a later date. However, I loved my first box which was all makeup based and a lot of full sized products which was lovely. The pink box is classy and looks beautiful but I also love Birchbox’s different box designs each month. I’ll continue to enjoy them both & look forward to them being delivered each month.

For the garnish

  • 4 bay leaves
  • lemon slices, halved

  • STEP 1

Divide the gin between four small heatproof glasses or teacups.

  • STEP 2

Tip the apple juice into a saucepan with the rest of the ingredients. Heat gently until simmering, then strain into a jug. Pour the mulled apple juice into the glasses with the gin and stir gently to combine. Garnish each glass with a bay leaf and half a lemon slice and serve warm.

Sex & The City 2

Not a new film but as a huge fan of ‘SATC’ I of course loved both movies & was hoping for a 3rd (sadly that won’t be happening)

Whereas the first film followed on well from the series, number 2 is a bit sillier and extremely far fetched but it’s worth watching it for the fashion alone. The extravagance of the clothes, sets & storylines is crazy but it’s great escapism and I love it!!

If you’re still a fan but haven’t seen it or haven’t seen it for a long time, it’s on Netflix now so sit down with a cocktail & escape for a couple of hours.

Christmas planning, Christmas shopping, Christmas decorating!  I’m determined my family will still have a wonderful Christmas despite the restrictions and the year we’ve had.

I’ve had to go back on Zoom for my business. Teaching dance classes on Zoom is HARD!! It’s been a tough month for small businesses everywhere & I worry greatly what this will mean for everyone at the start of next year.

Also, the dreary British weather. Rainy grey days every day doesn’t make lockdown any easier.

1. Glossy Box, I already get Birchbox monthly but I’d heard good things about Glossy Box so I thought I’d try it. I share them both with my daughter & it’s lovely to try new products each month

2. ‘The Crown’ Series 4.

3. Gordons Sicilian lemon Gin

4. I’m a celebrity is back. This year is in Wales so it’s a bit different but it’s so good to have this and Strictly back to lead us up to Christmas.

5.  3 Step skincare by Vitamasque featuring a scrub, sheet mask & hydrating moisturiser
