The I’m a celebrity challenge – Manchester
My family & I are big I’m a celeb fans so when I heard about the new attraction in Manchester I thought it might be a fun thing for Belle & Max to enjoy.
We booked to go on a day off between Christmas & New Year and we had a good time. Tony & I just spectated as the kids did the activities. It’s not a cheap experience with tickets at £30 for 18 & over, £27,50 under 18’s, £19 for students & £10 for spectators. For a family of 4 to participate or even with 2 participating & 2 spectators it’s an expensive day out but we had an enjoyable time. There are lots of activities but they weren’t too challenging & certainly not on a par with other attractions we’ve been to such as Go Ape. The aim is to collect stars as you go along through activities, finding them hidden & dingo challenges then your scores are displayed on screens but it doesn’t really mean too much. The place has had a lot of time & money spent on it and has been thought out well right down to the appearance of the muddy ground & the sound effects which were all fantastic. One thing I was impressed with was that digital photos are taken of everyone on all the challenges and these are then e mailed to you free of charge which makes the entry fee far more value for money. Most places can charge up to £10 per photo so I found this to be a very welcome surprise.
All in all we had a great time and there’s no time limit on how long you stay or how long you have to complete each challenge so you never feel rushed and the staff were all extremely pleasant & helpful.
We personally won’t do it again as a family as we don’t feel the need to go again now we’ve done it, however I’m sure many people will go more than once and I’m sure Max would enjoy going again with his mates next time.

January Detox & Fitness Regime
Yes, I know it’s a cliché, joining the Gym in January and yes, I’ve been a statistic many times by joining & not carrying it on. However, yes I am joining again this January but this time I have to stick it out as I’ve signed up to do Tough Mudder in July. Last year Tony ran the London Marathon and I was so proud of his commitment and dedication to it. I knew I wanted and needed a goal myself this year and, when a group of friends asked if I’d join them I said yes instantly. Am I dreading it? Absolutely!!!! But sometimes we have to push ourselves out of our comfort zones!!!!
Tony & Belle are also doing it so Belle & I are joining the gym together which will be lovely. We’re also starting January with a 3 day juice detox to kick start the New Year, then I’m aiming to not do a full dry January but to really cut down my alcohol intake after over indulging this Christmas.
I’m actually really motivated and excited to start so watch this space!!!!!
RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH
3 Acres – Emley Huddersfield
One of our favourite restaurants and it’s only a stones throw away from our home. Set in the beautiful countryside of Emley where we’re so lucky to live is this fabulous high quality restaurant and the food and ambience never disappoint.
This year, with the current climate the way it is, we chose to book a table here on New Years Eve rather than having a party as we felt it was safer. We still wanted a lovely evening and 3 Acres is the perfect place for a classy New Years Eve.
The food was delicious as always and, despite it being busy, the service was excellent. A perfect way to bring in the New Year & a restaurant we’ll be returning to many times in 2022!
COCKTAIL OF THE MONTH
Cucumber Mint Detox Drink
January for me is a time to clear the body of all the indulgence Christmas brings and start a new year with a health kick. Mint improves the flow of bile through the stomach speeding the digestion process. Coupled with antioxidant rich cucumber and lemon, this cooler is a respite from the toxic overload consumed in December.
8-10 Mint leaves
2 Tbsp Lemon juice
Lemon rings and mint leaves
1. Peel, chop and blend cucumber, mint leaves and 1 cup of water.
2. Strain and discard pulp.
3. Add lemon juice, black salt and dilute with water if needed.
4. Pour the beverages in glasses, put some ice cubes and garnish with lemon rings and mint leaves.
FILM/TV SHOW OF THE MONTH
Love it, love it, love it! I binged watch this as most people did in lockdown and I’ve watched the entire series again since. The performances and writing are superb and it’s perfect escapism! If you’ve not seen it make sure you do whilst it’s still on Netflix!
