LIFESTYLE, LEISURE, PLACES & HOME
Oblix Bar in The Shard London
On a beautiful sunny bank holiday weekend in May, I took my beautiful daughter Isabelle to London for a weekend to celebrate the end of leaving school & finishing her GCSE’s.
After a wet & rainy May we couldn’t have picked a more beautiful weekend with glorious sunshine & clear skies for the whole weekend.
Going up The Shard has been on our bucket list for a while now &, rather than going to the viewing gallery we wanted to do it in style & have cocktails at one of the fabulous restaurants.
With eating at The Ivy later that day we only wanted drinks & at The Oblix you can pick the drinks only option as there is two parts to this fabulous restaurant, the East side & the West side.
The East side is the bar area & as we were blessed with beautiful weather in London, with clear blue skies the views were simply stunning!
At £20 a pop for some cocktails (my daughter of course chose the most expensive one!!!!) it’s not cheap but it’s certainly a treat and an experience. Well worth it and one for the bucket list!!!
BEAUTY, HEALTH & STYLE
Rose Quartz Gua Sha face tool
Generally associated with traditional Chinese medicine, ‘Gua Sha’ therapy (sometimes called ‘scraping’ therapy) has been used for thousands of years – and the ancient Greeks and Egyptians favoured rose quartz stone to help them retain their youth and beauty. Hand-crafted from natural rose quartz crystals, this exquisite tool hugs the curves of your face and neck to increase blood circulation, refining and smoothing your skin, as well as stimulating a variety of acupressure points. I’ve spent time on google finding out about various techniques & ways to use this fantastic tool to help my face and neck feel smoother, more relaxed and (hopefully!) youthful.
RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH
The Ivy Bar & Grill Covent Garden
We’ve eaten here a few times before & I love it. Staying as close as possible to the original Ivy restaurant with the Art Deco décor & classy style and ambience, it is slightly more accessible than the original (and easier to book a table)
The service is exemplary, all staff are drilled to perfection and it really does have an old school class about it which I adore. The menu is not overwhelming in quantity but still has plenty to choose from. It’s not cheap but most definitely not overpriced and portion sizes are good. Like ant restaurant, it’s the drinks that can set you back and London prices for drinks certainly add up. However, it’s a fabulolus setting in the heart of Covent Garden with exceptional standards, exceptional class & an exceptional time was had as always.
COCKTAIL OF THE MONTH
Capture the true taste of summer with this berry-infused spirit that makes a stunning gin ‘n’ tonic or base for a fruity cocktail
- 700ml bottle of gin (I like Hendrick’s or Brockmans)
- 400g punnet of strawberries, sliced
- 100g caster sugar
- STEP 1
Mix the gin with the strawberries and caster sugar in a large bowl and pour into a 1.5-litre sterilised Kilner jar.
- STEP 2
Store in the fridge and stir every two days for three weeks.
FILM/TV SHOW OF THE MONTH
Call The Midwife
I’m at my happiest on a Sunday night when I’m sat watching a lovely Sunday night drama that lets me escape for an hour or so. Nothing will ever be the same as ‘Downton’ on a Sunday evening however, ‘Call the Midwife’ is definitely a huge favourite of mine and is a wonderful series, hence it sill being as popular 10 years down the line. The sets, the attention to detail of the era & the performances are all simply stunning and it really does transport you back in time.
