LIFESTYLE, LEISURE, PLACES & HOME

Go Ape – Temple Newsam Leeds

Max has been wanting to go to Go Ape for ages so as soon as it reopened I booked for Belle & Max (& I really wished I’d booked myself on too). To say Belle hated it is an understatement!!!! Lol!!!, but that’s certainly no fault of Go Ape, it just wasn’t for her. Max however, loved every minute. Its extremely well organised and a great course. We were blessed with lovely weather but I’m not sure it would be as fun in the pouring rain! Max wanted to do it all again at the end and can’t wait to go back & take his mates. Its not for anyone who doesn’t have a good head for heights but it’s a great day out if you want a different kind of experience.

We booked the Tree Top Adventure plus which was £23 each.

A great day which I highly recommend.

BEAUTY, HEALTH & STYLE

Couch to 5K

On his 40th birthday my husband Tony applied for the London Marathon with no success! He has then subsequently applied every year since and then this year, on his 50th birthday he’s been accepted!!!! Only took 10 years!!!!!!

He’s doing brilliantly with his training and, not feeling as fit myself as I once did, I decided to start running again. Whilst I have no desire to run a marathon I did feel I needed some kind of mini goal to keep me motivated so I thought Couch to 5K was a good start. I downloaded the BBC app and my journey began. I can’t say I love running but, having run quite a lot in my 20’s, I’ve found it relatively easy to get started. I’ve been on the treadmill up to now but, as the nicer weather is appearing I am going to venture outside very soon. Podcasts rather than music are my saviour as I focus on them & switch off more than I would with music. Am I loving it? No! But I’m certainly not hating it either & I’m definitely feeling the benefits in my health & fitness.

RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH

Jacobs Well – Holmfirth

It may only be for outdoor dining, but I’m thrilled I can at last re add my restaurant of the month review – at last it feels like life is moving forwards.

We booked to go to Jacobs Well with some friends & had a wonderful evening. Jacobs Well is situated in Holmfirth and was highlighted when it was on the Tour de Yorkshire route in 2017.

The outside area has been adapted for Covid times & is undercover with plenty of heaters to make it a comfortable dining experience. The menu is vast and it was all absolutely delicious. The staff are all friendly and helpful and are doing their upmost to make it a great experience for everyone. I’m a huge advocate for supporting our local restaurants in what has been a horrendous year for them & I love to see them all doing so well since re opening.

COCKTAIL OF THE MONTH

Tequila Sunrise

Ingredients

Method

  • STEP 1

Pour the grenadine into the base of a tall glass and set aside. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the tequila, triple sec and fruit juices. Shake until the outside of the shaker feels cold.

  • STEP 2

Add a few ice cubes to the serving glass then carefully double strain the cocktail into it, trying not to disturb the grenadine layer too much. Add more ice if needed to fill the glass then garnish with a cherry on a stick or cocktail umbrella.

FILM/TV SHOW OF THE MONTH

Motherland

I discovered this show in lockdown & quickly made my way through seasons 1 & 2. I absolutely LOVED it and I’m thrilled to know series 3 will be aired shortly. The cast are all great but I love Anna Maxwell Martin. As I’m late to the party with line of duty & have only just started season 1 this is the first programme I’ve seen her in & I adore her quirky style. As a mum of 2, albeit a bit older than in Motherland, so much of the school gate culture is relatable and I find it an refreshing & funny script.

THIS MONTH I’M LOVING

The easing of lockdown & better weather!

THIS MONTH I’M NOT LOVING

Seeing the mess people leave in our beauty spots around the country. Why don’t people take their rubbish home?!!!!!

THIS MONTHS FAVOURITES

1. The Mummy Diaries

2. My new Summerhouse & Gardening

3. Peppermint Oil capsules

4. Bryony Gordons ‘Mad World’ podcast

5. Jane Fallon’s novel ‘Tell me a secret’
