THE DELIGHTS OF DUBAI
THE DELIGHTS OF DUBAI
BARKERS ON TOUR, FIRST STOP OF OUR FABULOUS TRIP – DUBAI
I’m currently sat on an extremely comfortable Emirates flight to Perth, Western Australia after 2 amazing days in Dubai. Dubai is a place I’ve wanted to visit for a long time & I certainly wasn’t disappointed.
After a very cold spell in the UK with weeks of snow, the heat hit us as soon as we disembarked the aircraft. Oh to feel some sunshine on our faces again was just wonderful.
A transfer was waiting for us at this amazing airport & took us straight to the fabulous Hilton Hotel at Jumeriah Beach.
We arrived at 7am and were taken straight to the executive lounge for a very welcome & delicious breakfast. Once we’d eaten we were taken straight to our room and wow was a fabulous treat. We had been put in the executive suite which was huge & absolutely stunning consisting of 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms & a lounge and bar area with a fabulous view of the pool & stunning beach.
Isabelle & Max couldn’t wait to get to the pool so after a quick change into our swim wear we were sat drinking cocktails and sunning ourself at the beautiful pool area. Bliss!!
For our first day in Dubai we just wanted to enjoy the hotel and it’s wonderful facilities plus a visit to the hotels own private beach. We’ve all been so busy recently that just being able to relax in the glorious sunshine really felt like heaven.
After a fabulous day by the pool we then returned to our room to shower & dress for dinner.
Dinner was a buffet style service and the food was plentiful & delicious with so much choice to please everyone. Wherever we go in the world, we always challenge Isabelle & Max to try foods they’ve never tasted before & sample local cuisine.
In the evening, although a little tired from not much sleep on the overnight flight along with a touch of jet lag, we didn’t want to waste a minute of this exciting country & so had a wander down the Jumeriah beach promenade. Restaurants & designer shops line every street & my initial impression is how clean it all is and, although very touristy it wasn’t too busy.
Back to our hotel room we were all ready for a good nights sleep & looking forward to another day in this amazing place.
I don’t think anything can be better than waking up to see a view of the sunrise over the ocean & our view the next morning was simply stunning.
We got up quite early to enjoy the buffet style breakfast and the array of foods was astonishing. It was absolutely delicious and there was just nothing you couldn’t get with the most attentive service. The hotel staff are from all over the world and couldn’t have been more accommodating. I always find it fascinating to hear their stories and how they have come to be where they are. What fascinating lives and such humble & kind people.
We spent the morning by the pool and then took a taxi to the centre in the afternoon. Our first stop was the Dubai Mall which is out of this world. It boasts every designer shop imaginable coupled with traditional Souks selling local wares which was fascinating to see. The mall also has a huge aquarium which had a marvellous array of sharks, stingrays, tropical fish, swordfish and various other stunning underwater creatures. The sheer scale of this mall & aquarium is like nothing else. It’s extremely Westernised but seeing locals in their traditional dress of Burquas reminds you that you are in an Arabic country.
We then walked outside to the delightful waterfront to see the Burj Khalifa, currently the worlds tallest building, which is quite a sight along with a skyline brimming with skyscrapers. The dancing fountains are beautiful to see and the whole place oozes class and wealth which is definitely reflected in the cost of things & certainly not a place to come to for bargains! Sitting at a cafe for drinks in the sun to take in the sights was just beautiful although not a drop of alcohol as drinking is strictly forbidden in any public area in Dubai.
The country has become hugely popular over the years and the taxi ride back to the hotel proved this with the vast amount of traffic on the roads.
Another delicious meal tasting local & international cuisine was very much welcomed after a busy day in this vast and modern city that just buzzes with excitement.
A lovely cocktail sat around the pool which looked stunning lit up in the evening finished off our time in Dubai before we packed our bags ready to move on to our next destination, Perth, Western Australia.
Dubai, you have been amazing & we will certainly be returning to see more of this fascinating country.
